The Roland System-500 505 Dual VCF Module is a unique and compact Eurorack module that bases its design on the filtering section of the revered Roland SH-5 monophonic synthesizer. The SH-5 was renowned for being a trendsetter in the synth world, and featured a wide range of unique components and design aspects that made it a staple in the music world. The SH-5 included unique filters comprised of two multi-mode filters and an additional band-pass-only filter. Roland have teamed up with Malekko to incorporate this highly sought-after filter section into a compact and portable Eurorack-format module.
Multi-Mode Filter & Band-Pass Filter
The filtering section from the SH-5 is one of the most distinguished filters in monosynth history. The filter section features both a multi-mode filter and a band-pass filter, combined to create truly unique tones and flavours. In comparison to conventional Ladder filter designs, the SH-5 filter retained its bass response with a pronounced and powerful resonance growl. The filter is comprised of built-in VCAs with CV control of cutoff and resonance with switchable outputs and two flavours of vintage filter characteristics.
